Field of Dreams
If you write it, they will read it. I mean, why not? To borrow a quote from a 1989 Kevin Costner movie Field of Dreams, the main character, Ray, hears a voice telling him “If you build it, he will come.” Ray struggles with his relationship with his deceased dad who was a devoted baseball fan. So, he clears an area in his corn field and builds a baseball diamond. The rest is a picture perfect movie ending. Like Ray I hope if I believe in bringing this blog dream to life, that I will attract it into a reality.
Now, I’m not saying that I heard a voice telling me to build a blog, but I’m not saying that I haven’t. Actually, I read it somewhere… Of course, it will take creativity, time, and commitment, which as a housewife, I’ve got nothing but time on my hands, right… Eating bon bons and watching soap operas all day long. Not exactly. I would like to think that I have the same amount of time that you have in a day. 24 hours last I checked. But really, it’s just a matter of what we do with our time. It’s precious, I know. Given that I am an old lady and a new writer, my personal experience tells me that it may take up to an hour or two to write something that takes a reader 5-10 minutes to read. So, I truly appreciate every minute you give me and I promise to give you a little something to appreciate straight from my theoretical housewife perspective. Let the writing begin!
Writing
I used to journal occasionally when I needed to let out expressions of angst or love or thoughts much ado about nothing. When Covid-19 hit, I began writing Facebook posts on a nightly basis to document my thoughts and activities of the day during the “unprecedented” pandemic times. For me, it started March 17, 2020, my youngest daughter’s last day of her high school senior year, and it ended 365 days later. One year was enough; I was nearing the point of demotivation to write each night as much as I was becoming Covid-fatigued.
I took a much needed break but found that I loved to write short stories about the different things happening in life. As a mom, wife, daughter, sister, tia, Nana of twin granddaughters, friend, virtual and real, and from a lifelong learner perspective. Funny, sad, eye-opening, surprising, just about anything! I realized that I do love to tell a story, short stories. Then, I moved on to write a big story, a book. An actual manuscript! About what? Short answer: My Personal Account of Depression and Recovery. It’s been sent to the publisher and awaits editing. I’m also anxiously awaiting the cover, professional scanning of my drawings, my professional author photograph, and the final book title! I thought writing was the most difficult part of publishing a book; waiting for the professionals to do their thing has been a time for rest and patience.
In the time prior to book release, it is recommended that I build a community following. Since I work from home, I will have to rely on a virtual community. That’s where you come in. I sure am glad that you took the time to ready my first blog. I will work on building the site and connections to other social media to streamline my efforts and make it an easy experience for you and I to make a connection.

You don’t have to be married to a house or even hold a Ph.D. to be a part of this theoretical community of thought. There will be no thesis or dissertation requirement to pass along stories or anecdotes. So, let’s laugh, learn, and love together as we navigate life as experienced by you and me.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I think. To put oneself “out there” on social media platforms can be brutal. I’ve experienced it myself in one of my nightly writings. But I hope there will be more good in sharing than negative. I’ll do my best to keep faithful to myself and to be open to other views. I would ask the same in return. Let’s learn from each other and enjoy life a little bit more than we did yesterday.
Take Good Care.
