PROFESSIONAL AUTHOR PHOTOGRAPH

MultiMedia Publishing Project – A little fun with the photo session!

Good Morning

I woke up this morning and got on with my morning routine… coffee and some reading (currently reading Walk To Beautiful by Jimmy Wayne with Ken Abraham, a real life story of country music star Jimmy Wayne). After my second cup of coffee, it was time to wake the BroMan up to begin his morning routine. The BroMan is my brother whom is special needs. He lives with my husband and I. His story is worthy of his very own post.

The Face and Hair

Today, I added to my morning routine. I got myself ready to face the outside world for the day. I started with Dr. Jart+ Cicapair™ Tiger Grass Color Correcting green-to-beige cica cream that neutralizes and evens skin tone. Next, I filled in and shaped the eyebrows. Lining the eyes followed. I added a wing on the outer edge to help give pop to my tiny eyes. My lashes needed an application of mascara to give the appearance of length and thickness. A bit of concealer here and there, and some color for the eyes and cheeks. I moved on to touch up the hair with a hair wand we purchased at the mall.

The Outfit

Now what to wear for a professional photo shoot. I chose a black dress I recently purchased from Torrid. My sister took me there and I didn’t think I would find something that would fit me. It’s a Plus Size Fashion & Trendy Plus Size Clothing store. She had bought me this bra that was twice the size as what “my girls” needed. I returned it with the intent to find something smaller to replace it. Lucky me that I found a really cool black dress that fit me in the upper region and was comfortable should I decide to eat a 7-course meal. I loved it and bought it! #torridstrong

Nerves

I began to get nervous and I didn’t know why. Afterall, it wasn’t a job interview where I had to focus and come up with the perfect responses. I just had to pose, smile, and tilt my chin at just the right angle. As I walked out the door, RB gave me a little smack in the behind and said “there, now don’t be nervous.” TMI? After we laughed, I felt my nerves calm. Time to focus on the goal of publishing a book. This was just one of the steps in the process to completion.

On my way, hands free, I clicked to record a video to document the emotions as I was heading to the photograph appointment. I’ll post it on my Facebook page. Remember, I am a lifelong learner. Always got my hand and mind into something.

On Scene

With my face on, my hair done, and a new dress donned, I was ready to rise up to the next step in the publication process. The professional author photograph. I felt and looked pretty good. The look reminded me of my days as an employee in an professional office setting which was a long, long time ago. Bless you if this is your daily routine.

I arrived on time, with 20 minutes to spare. After waiting 10 minutes, I walked into the publisher’s office feeling a bit amazing and only carried a minimal of self-doubt. My high heel shoes did not fail me; no stumbles from the car to the office. There would be no need for the shoes as the plan was for only a headshot. Relieved, I told the publisher I had a pair of chanklas in my car that I could switch into. If my feet could talk, they would be toting expressions of gratitude.

Picture Time

Lights, camera, and not too much action. Stillness and angles, plus a smile was the order of the day. It was a comfortable experience. No need for nerves, just smiles and a few serious poses. They aren’t available just yet. The photo editing is next. We’ve got to remove the gifts of imperfection (a play on words from Brene Brown’s book of the same title). I can’t wait to add them to my official Author page on Facebook (SaBrina Beck Author | Facebook).

We looked over a couple book covers and discussed ideas and options. I am grateful that this task is in the hands of professionals. The book editing process is next.  My manuscript is next in line.

Take Good Care.
